Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are your frames made of?
We use premium materials chosen for their balance of durability, clarity, and professional presentation:
- Solid Wood: Each frame is crafted from genuine hardwood—never MDF or plastic—to ensure structural integrity and an elevated, refined finish.
- Tempered Glass (up to 41"): Our small to mid-size frames are fitted with museum-quality shatter-resistant tempered glass, offering crystal-clear visibility and superior scratch resistance. While heavier than acrylic, tempered glass provides exceptional longevity and optical performance.
- Acrylic Glazing (over 41"): For larger frame sizes, we use high-clarity, impact-resistant acrylic to reduce the risk of breakage during transit or installation. It’s lightweight, durable, and well-suited for high-traffic areas or child-safe environments.
- Acid- and Lignin-Free Matting (when included): Many of our styles include a precision-cut, acid and lignin-free beveled mat. This professional-grade material safeguards your artwork by preventing yellowing, fading, or chemical degradation over time.

What is the rabbet depth of your frames?
Rabbet depth refers to the interior space inside the frame where your artwork, mat, and backing sit. Here's a breakdown by collection:
- Signature Frames (Glass & Acrylic): 13/16 in
- Grand Frames: 1 1/16 in
- Shadow Box Frames: 2 5/16 in
If you're framing something with extra depth—like canvas boards or memorabilia—our Grand and Shadow Box frames are great options.
How to mount your print in a frame?
Whether you're framing fine art, photography, or a special print, it’s important to mount your work properly to preserve its appearance and condition over time.
Here are our top tips for affixing your 18x24 print to the mat safely and professionally:
-
Use Archival Hinge Tape or Photo Corners
To protect your artwork long-term, we recommend acid-free hinging tape or archival photo corners. These options are designed for conservation framing and won’t yellow, stain, or damage your print over time.
Apply the tape only to the top edge of the print, creating a soft “hinge” that lets the paper naturally expand and contract with changes in humidity. This prevents buckling inside the frame.
Avoid taping all four sides—this can stress the paper and lead to warping. -
Skip the Glue and Regular Tape
It might be tempting to use double-sided tape or glue, but these adhesives aren’t archival and can damage your artwork over time. They can also be difficult (or impossible) to remove cleanly in the future if you ever want to reframe or replace the mat. -
Align and Center Your Print Carefully
Work on a clean, dry surface—ideally with cotton gloves to avoid fingerprints. Use the mat window to help position your print before applying tape. You can use small paperweights or low-tack painter’s tape on the back side to temporarily hold everything in place as you align it.
Once your print is centered behind the mat, apply the hinge tape to the back, connecting the top edge of the print to the mat backing.
Final Thoughts
The framing process can feel intimidating, but with the right tools and care, your artwork will look beautiful—and stay protected—for years to come.

How much does shipping cost?
Shipping costs depend on your location, order size, and the shipping method selected at checkout.
Here’s what you need to know:
- We ship anywhere in the U.S. — including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico — as well as Canada for non-freight items.
- Shipping rates are calculated in real time at checkout based on your delivery address and the size of your order.
- Most orders ship within 1 business day and arrive within 2 business days for most U.S. locations.
- You’ll see the exact shipping cost at checkout before completing your order.
- Orders over 150 lbs will ship via ground freight to ensure safe delivery — this typically applies to large bulk or oversized frame orders.
- Oversized or heavy frames may incur additional handling fees due to specialized packaging requirements.
We’re committed to fast, affordable, and secure shipping — and our team carefully packs each order to ensure it arrives safely and on time.
How do I select the correct frame or mat size?
Our frames are listed by the exact size they’re made to fit — not the outer dimensions of the frame itself.
This means a “22x28–18x24” frame is designed to:
- Fit a 22x28" print without the mat, displaying approximately 21.5x27.5" (due to a standard ½" mat overlap).
- Fit an 18x24" print with the mat, showing approximately 17.5x23.5".
- The 18x24 print is typically taped to the back of the mat opening for a secure fit.
Please note: the outer dimensions of the full frame will be slightly larger than 22x28 to account for the width of the moulding. Exact outer measurements can be found on each product page under “Other Details.”
Still unsure? We recommend using a ruler or measuring tape to determine the exact height and width of your artwork. Measure the image area you want visible — not including any white borders unless you plan to display them.
Example: If your photo measures 5x7 inches, we recommend choosing our 6x8 frame, which features a 5x7 display mat. If you prefer to forgo the mat, you can opt for the 5x7 frame and securely attach your photo to the back of the mat, allowing it to fill the frame perfectly.

How do I insert my picture into the frame?
Removing the Backing:
- Place the frame face down on a clean, flat surface.
- Use a small, firm tool — such as a flathead screwdriver or the prongs of a metal fork — to gently bend the metal tabs straight up.
- Be careful not to twist or rotate the tabs, as this can weaken or break them over time.
- Once all the tabs are lifted, remove the backing board to access the inside of the frame.
Inserting Your Artwork:
- Place your photo or artwork face down in the frame opening.
- If you're using a mat, position the artwork behind the mat window and secure it with acid-free tape.
- Replace the backing board and press it down evenly.
- Carefully bend the metal tabs back down to hold everything securely in place.
Pro Tips:
- Always work on a soft surface (like a towel) to avoid scratching the frame.
- Use a microfiber cloth to clean the glass or acrylic before reassembling.
How do I clean and maintain my frame?
Proper care helps your frame stay beautiful for years. Here’s how to safely clean and maintain your picture frame:
For the Frame Surface:
- Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to gently remove dust, fingerprints, and surface dirt.
- For deeper cleaning, lightly dampen the cloth with water only — avoid using household cleaners, as they may damage the finish or stain the wood.
- For painted or stained wood frames, do not use abrasive materials or chemical polishes.
For the Glass or Acrylic Front:
- If your frame has glass, use a mild, ammonia-free glass cleaner sprayed onto a cloth — never spray directly onto the frame.
- If your frame has acrylic (plexiglass), use a cleaner made specifically for acrylic or simply a soft cloth with water. Acrylic is more prone to scratching, so avoid paper towels or rough cloths.
General Maintenance Tips:
- Keep frames out of direct sunlight to prevent fading of artwork or matting.
- Avoid hanging frames in damp or humid environments (like bathrooms) without proper ventilation.
- Check wall hooks and hanging hardware occasionally to ensure the frame is securely mounted.
Do you use acid free mats & backing?
Yes — all of our mats and backing boards are acid-free, lignin-free, and pH-neutral, making them safe for preserving photographs, artwork, and documents over time.
Why acid-free materials are important:
Acidic framing materials can break down and discolor artwork, leading to yellowing, fading, and brittleness — especially in photographs or paper-based media. Acid-free mats and backing are chemically stable, which means they won’t release harmful acids or gasses into the frame over time. This is critical for anyone displaying valuable, sentimental, or archival-quality pieces.
What we use in our frames:
-
Conservation-grade matboards:
Acid-free and lignin-free to prevent deterioration
Designed with a standard ½" overlap to secure and protect your artwork -
Acid-free backing boards:
Provide a stable, pH-neutral support
Help protect the back of your artwork from dust, warping, and environmental changes
Often made from buffered materials that help neutralize ambient acidity
When is this especially important?
- Framing original artwork, photography, diplomas, or certificates
- Long-term displays in homes, galleries, or businesses
- Gifting or selling art where professional presentation and preservation matter
Using non-archival materials may seem similar at first glance, but they can cause irreversible damage within just a few years. We frame every piece like it’s meant to last.
